OUR STORY

In late 2022, we started watching Wu-Tang: An American Saga after Tiffany heard Raekwon discussing his new book and the series in an interview on NPR. We appreciated the depth of the show, and after each episode would spend time reading episode recaps and Googling the backstories of each member to get more information.  We started learning things about the group that we never knew before, and we would even quiz each other on what we’d learn.

One day, we looked to see if there was a Wu-Tang board game only to be surprised and disappointed that there was no such thing. We did discover, however, that there were board games themed around The Beatles and The Rolling Stones. We asked ourselves: why do these groups have their own board games, while the Wu-Tang Clan, a group that has been called “the Rolling Stones of hip hop,” did not?

It was that question that sparked the development of Shaolin: A Wu-Tang-Inspired Board Game, the first board game to dive deep into the legacy of a hip hop group or artist.

In April 2024, two and a half years after our initial idea took hold, we launched Shaolin. Since then:

  • Shaolin has been featured in Mass Appeal’s Hip Hop Til Infinity Collection.

  • Questions from Shaolin were featured at the Lincoln Center’s Beats, Rhymes & Sights Hip Hop Trivia Battle.

  • We gave a presentation on using board games as a medium for telling hip hop stories at the 8th annual Can't Stop Hip Hop Conference at the Harvard Graduate School of Education, using Shaolin as a case study.

  • Shaolin received approval for sale on 36chambers.com, RZA’s official store.

OUR MISSION

Chill B Games is a board game company devoted to developing and publishing board games that pay homage to the Golden Age of hip hop. Our products are functional art pieces that incorporate the iconic imagery of classic hip hop and its sources of inspiration, while telling a compelling story through immersive gameplay.

We research the history and contributions of individual artists or groups to develop a customized storyline and game mechanic from the ground up. All artwork and game elements are designed to evoke the artists' lyrical imagery.

We are passionate about bringing the spirit and culture of hip hop to life in unique and engaging ways. Hip hop-inspired board games are underrepresented in the market, and we are committed to creating games that fill this void.

Board games are a unique way to tell stories because they can bring people together for an engaging and educational experience. Stories have been told and re-told through various mediums throughout history to preserve the legacy of people, places, and events. We hope that by bringing this game to market, it will open up opportunities for similar games that can ultimately help to preserve the legacy of hip hop as it journeys into the next 50 years.
